VINES: Planted in 1960 and 1965-6
VINEYARD: Rows overlap two lieux-dits, les Fremières and les Mochamps, approximately 280-meters altitude, with very shallow soil (5 cm), rocky and limestone-rich soil
VINIFICATION: 60 to 100% de-stemmed depending on vintage, indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel tank. Aged for 16 to 17 months in barrel (40-50% new oak).
The 2017 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a wonderful bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, potpourri, wilted rose petal and a subtle sous-bois scent. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite strict and linear, and fresh but a little introverted toward the finish. But there is nobility here, and it should give long-term pleasure. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (NM) (01/22)
