The fruit for this wine was sourced out of two single vineyards. Most of the fruit was sourced from Windsor Oaks Vineyard located in the Chalk Hill AVA, a sub-appellation of the Russian River. The lower blocks of this vineyard are ideal for growing Chardonnay as they are influenced by the nearby Russian River and Pacific Ocean. The subsoil is deep, clay soil that is typical of the Russian River. The soil in conjunction with the cooling effect of the coastal fog provides ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay. The balance of the fruit is sourced from the Larson Vineyard which is an organically farmed vineyard in the Sonoma Carneros region.
The wine is made at William Knuttels facility in Sonoma. The style is very Burgundian, whole cluster pressing, barrel fermentation in 100% French Oak. The wine is aged on the Lees for added texture and flavor, with batonnage (stirring) occurring once a week.
Tasting Notes: Orange blossom, juicy green apple, and rich notes of citrus jump out of the glass. The wine has layering, texture, and round notes of candied apple and bright citrus. There is plenty of length for all you Burgundy lovers out there on the back end.
"Little Boat is an exciting project centered in Russian River Valley (California), with the invaluable support of some of the best sommeliers in the country, to create these well-balanced and elegant boutique wines that are currently on the wine lists of the restaurants of some of the best chefs in the world like the late Joël Robuchon, Wolfgang Puck, Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, José Andrés or Thomas Keller, amongst others. Inspired by the children’s song Barquito de papel (an ode to peace and friendship), little boat is dedicated to my son Mateo, author of the artwork. This wine is the fruit of the synergy between Brad Alper, William Knuttel, Mike Miller the Treyzon family and me, assisted by sommeliers Harley Carbery, Phillip Dunn, Lucas Payá and Robert Smith MS." - José Ignacio Cuenca
