When asked about the meaning behind the name of this wine, a four word sentence was all it took to sum it up. “Someone great is gone.” A simple sentence, but one that carries a lot of weight. Taras Ochota was Louis Schofield’s beloved mentor and friend, and his passing brings the kind of sorrow and reverence that makes things a little more clear. This cuvée was born in that vein, out of the desire to make a Grenache that is lighter than the normal full-bodied options from McLaren Vale. Only one barrel of this wine is made every year, and it is always their best.

“From a thicket of older, Blewitt Springs vines this is grenache that comes in off the vineyard on the Mac Forbes-Joe Holyman picking time line, ending up at a light weight 10.8% alcohol. Extended maceration does the deed for structure and tension in the wine. Lively Louis Schofield suggests its an homage to Pfifferling (L’Anglore) and Leroy, per se, in the vein of light weight but very architectural and perfumed wines. Hits the spot. Pale garnet colour. Scents of pickled plums and rose hip tea, Earl Grey tea; similar flavours. Light weight, indeed, a sheath of silty tannins lending tug and chew, nervy acidity all perky and crunchy through the core. Fragrant, piercing, long and fine, a beautiful, fine-boned red of levity, freshness and bitey, thirst-quenching tang. Fantastic drinking and I reckon this one will do a treat in the cellar. Stellar, in its filigreed way.” - 95 Points, The Wine Front
