Domaine Edmond Cornu was founded when the Cornu family settled in the town of Ladoix in 1870 and established the domaine in 1875. Edmond Cornu assumed command of the estate in 1956 and in 1959 began to bottle the fruits of his labor. Up to that time all wines made at the estate had been sold to negociants. As the private clientele increased, Cornu also expanded the domaine. With the ascension of his son, Pierre, to full participation in the domaine, this dynamic family has aggressively pursued additional opportunities to acquire prime vineyard sites. Having expanded the domaine, Pierre is now joined by his cousin, Emmanuel Boireau, in supervising the vineyard and cellar work.

Les Carrieres is a special site in Ladoix that abuts the grand cru Corton-Rognet on one side and the great Ladoix premier cru Le Bois Roussot on the other. This highly pedigreed terroir results in exceptional complexity for what is technically a village-level wine. Its particularly stony, gravelly soils provide excellent drainage and promote vigorous acidity in its wines—a feature which nicely offsets the wine's spice-driven, black-cherry fruit and smoky intensity. To put it simply, this is one of those wines that you just can't ever have enough of - and at this price, you can open one every night of the week!

Burghound: 88-90 Points

An admirably deft touch of wood sets of the very pretty mix of red and blue pinot fruit together with a floral hint. The caressing, round and utterly delicious medium weight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before terminating in a dusty, long and slightly more complex finish.
